Where to begin? It was way too Awesome

08/11/10

Right, so I have no idea on where or how to begin on explaining the complete and total list of utterly amazingness that was crammed in through my eyeballs and seared into my mind hopefully for eternity (if not I’ve got photos). That is just the minimal amount I can tell you because there was also the sensations of touch, sound, smell and well yes taste.

Well as most stories go, they begin in the well the beginning. I for one am going to give it a go to try and tell this story backwards. Just for my own amusement, as I will be trying to picture your faces looking contorted as you read it trying to think of what took place before what and where and on what day. I hope this works. My advice is scroll to the bottom and read the paragraphs bottom to top.

love you all

So that was my first weekend in New Zealand, now to hope the rest can live up to it. Oh yeah. Mom, Dad I' will be going skydiving while here. It’s already purchased. sorry. Oh yeah my new phone number is: 64 2 204 245 502

After a huge and tiring walk from about half way up the hill to the car park as most of the snow had melted, we flew back to the cottage for showers, packing and cleaning and were back on the road towards Auckland. After returning at 2AM we went straight to bed to nurse our sore bodies and minds. Oh I almost forgot I have a video of my freshies, although you can here some tossers making fun of my choice of line and style It was still epic in my mind. Enjoy!

The higher we got the more tired we got, along with sunburnt and dehydrated. We did make it though, and the beer at the top was well worth the effort. Oh yeah the view was aiight too eh.

So after a lunch break and watching a small train  of people start their way up, we once again poked our heads into ski patrol and told them we were going up. We were confident, energetic and so un-ready for what we were about to embark upon.

So we poked our heads into ski patrol to find out about climbing up the mountain, they told us to at least wait until the afternoon as it was a little icy. By then the sun should have softened up the face a bit. So we ripped around on the groomed tracks and through the park a bit while licking our chops looking up at the summit.

So after said photo, we piled back into the car and zoomed off to the the ski hill: Mt. Ruapehu for a day of awesomeness.

We awoke to a stunning blue bird day at the ski hill on the last day of the season, we suited up and hit the road to the hill. Stopping for obligatory tourist photos first. that was a good call.

So after our amazing day adventure we rented a movie called “Boy” about a young Maori boy and his family. it was rather cute and enjoyable. We also made some yum pasta and sauce.

After exhausting all of town, we headed out on a little road trip in and around Tongariro National Park. We drove into some tiny little towns and grabbed some vista views before settling into a natural hot spring pool for little while. Ah yes and at one of our scenic stops, We were offered a free puppy. It was too hard to say no but it had to be done.

We took a quick tour around town and looked into info on the Tongariro Crossing, which is walking 50Km over a mountain that has three active volcanoes in it. It also has three crater lakes made up of sulphurous water. I just found out today three days later that it is also the mountain that was used to portray Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings films.

The next day we awoke to a crisp and cool cabin, and wonderful coffee with a side of egg, ham, tomato, and avocado on toast made by the skilful Bindi. From there we were a little disheartened by the fact that the mountain was covered in cloud and storm and therefore closed.

Our sole mission that night night was merely to get to Okahune, where Bindi’s mother has a cabin in town.

After missing some turns here, and flying through the bus lane there, we arrived at Jess’s work where she had all her gear packed and ready to roll. We packed her in and instantly got stuck in rush hour traffic on the way out of town.

It was 4:30-5PM Friday when Bindi came rolling back in from work, we did the finishing touches on our packing and crammed it in her Subaru Legacy and drove head long into town to grab her friend Jess.
